Eurovision 2023: Allocation Draw this month!

The annual semi-final allocation draw will be taking place this month according to a leading councillor from Liverpool City Council.

Councillor Harry Doyle has confirmed in an interview with The Euro Trip that the Semi-Final Allocation Draw for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place at the end of January. During this ceremony, it is traditional that the Host City Insignia exchange will also take place and it is worth noting that by this time, the slogan for the Eurovision Song Contest is generally known - so, will we see this released before the end of January?

The allocation draws have taken place in buildings of grandeur, with city halls or museums being used as the settings for the delegates to meet and witness in which semi-final their nation will take part in. It has also usually been held around the end of January and some sight January 31st as the date that will be revealed. We will bring you news on this as soon as it has been confirmed.

The semi-final allocation draw is traditionally formed of two parts. The first part of the draw determines which semi-final each of the six pre-qualified countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the host country the United Kingdom along with Ukraine) will broadcast and be able to vote in.

The second part of the draw determined in which semi-final and in which half of the respective semi-final the other 30 participating countries will perform. As has been the case since 2013, the exact running order will be determined by the producers of the show at a later point in March.

The countries are divided in to pots, based on historic voting patterns. In this way, countries that traditionally award each other points are less likely to end up in the same Semi-Final, adding excitement to the shows. This is approved by the contest's Executive Supervisor on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Chairman of the Reference Group, the contest's governing body on behalf of all Participating Broadcasters.

The Semi-Final Allocation Draw is broadcast live via Eurovision.tv.
