United Kingdom: Sam Ryder Tops Charts

Updated: Dec 26, 2022

After his Eurovision song "Space Man" has had him come runner-up twice, Sam Ryder finally reaches the stars and soars into the number one spot with his debut album affectionately titled "There’s Nothing But Space, Man!".

Sam Ryder, the Essex singer that took the world by storm via TikTok during the Coronavirus Pandemic and ultimately returned glory to the hearts of Eurovision fans from across the United Kingdom has finally achieved a number one spot with his debut album.

It's the perfect end to an incredible year for the Eurovision hero, who came runner-up to Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest last May, before landing at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart with his Eurovision entry.

The outstanding success of "There’s Nothing But Space, Man" sees Sam Ryder become the first British male solo artist to debut at Number 1 in over three years, after Sam Fender topped the chart with his debut LP Hypersonic Missiles in 2019. Ryder is also the first solo artist to debut at Number 1 with their first full-length release since Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour in May 2021.

Not only that, the album is also the most physically purchased and digitally downloaded album of the week according to official sources, as well as the best-selling release in most UK independent record shops. Sam said on OfficialCharts.com:

"It looks like Christmas came early, because we achieved a Number 1 record together. Thank you all so much. If you knew the amount of people who’ve worked so hard on this, it’d blow your mind. This is pure collaboration. It couldn’t have been done without so many fabulous, amazing, optimistic legends. I love you, peace!”

The singer has remained as kind and as level headed as he always has been, even whilst battling a bout of ill health, he's been up and down the country busking in various cities on the streets impressing the watching crowds.

A far cry from the glamourous year of Eurovision in Turin, performing live at the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee Concert and much more.

Congratulations to you Sam, a worthy winner and an incredible Ambassador for the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest, we cannot wait to hear what you have in store for the future and of course, what you will bring the millions of viewers at the 2023 contest in Liverpool.
