Romania: National Selection 2023 underway

TVR, the Romanian state channel, is in full swing with its preparations for the national selection for Eurovision Song Contest 2023.



84 entries were submitted for the contest with a panel of judges bringing the number down to 12. The panel was made up of music professionals Sebastian Ferenț, Laura Coroianu, Bogdan Stratula, John Varbiu, Alin Vaida as well as the Head of the Romanian delegation for Eurovision 2023, Mihai Predescu.


WRS represented Romania in Eurovision 2022 with Llámame. The entry ranked 9th in the semifinal with 118 points and 18th in the final with 65 points. It gained more points from the televoting than the judges.



The Romanian national selection final will be held on 11th February 2023 in Bucharest. The live TV show will be aired simultaneously on TVR's TV channels, including the online platform.


The 12 hopefuls to represent Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 are (in running order):

1. Deiona - Call on me

2. Andrada Popa - No time for me

3. Ocean Drive - Take you home

4. Amia - Puppet

5. Andrei Duțu - Statues

6. Theodor Andrei - DGT (Off and on)

7. Steven Roho x Gabriella x Albatros Formation - Lele 8. Aledaida - Bla Bla Bla

9. Adriana Moraru - Faralaes

10. Maryliss - Hai vino 11. JaxMan (Erin Dăneţ) - Bad&Cool

12. Andreea D Folklor Orchestra - Periniţa mea

The public will select the winner through SMS and online voting.

 

History: Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest

Romanian Television TVR is the organizer of the National Selection and participates in the European competition since 1993. Romania's best results in the Contest were: twice a third place (Let Me Try by Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem in Kyiv, 2005; and Playing with Fire by Paula Seling and Ovi in Oslo, 2010) and once a fourth place (Tornero by Mihai Trăistariu in Athens, 2006) ).
